Corporate Social Responsibility at ODLO

As a Swiss company with a long-standing family tradition and high quality standards, ODLO has, for many years, placed great importance on carrying out its business in a socially and ecologically responsible manner.

Over 10 years ago, the manufacturers were already required to sign a code of conduct containing what were even then the most important points such as, for example, the prohibition of child labour, and the prohibition of unpaid and excessive overtime. At the beginning of 2009, ODLO revised that code of conduct to adapt to the requirements of the Fair Wear Foundation and had it re-signed by each of the producers. This most restrictive code on the market is based on the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. ODLO works together with less than 20 manufacturers, all working on a long-term partnership basis.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of ODLO is further shown through its entire sports underwear range being certified with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label. The majority of all products is manufactured in Europe, the largest part of which in our own production facilities. In this way, ODLO has a direct influence on the production conditions, and the transportation distances are shorter and easier to control. Additionally, ODLO produces quality products with a long lifespan, not cheaper “throw away” products.

In order to tackle the subject of CSR in a more comprehensive, more structured and more professional manner, ODLO joined the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) in October 2008. The FWF is an independent, non-profit organisation which supports good labour conditions in garment production, especially in low-wage countries. ODLO is thus committed to regularly controlling its manufacturers, and to the step-by-step implementation of the FWF Code of Labour Practices. The FWF confirms the effectiveness of the measures for improvement through factory visits, employee interviews, management interviews, and checking of the factory accounts. Membership of the FWF thus ensures that ODLO also continues to perform in the future in a socially responsible manner.
