Searching for a snowboard-specific base layer? What about a piece designed as a collaboration between snowboard giant Burton and ODLO? One that inspires the confidence and comfort to go big in deep snow?
Coming in the next months, we’re thrilled to introduce the first snowboard-specific base layer in ODLO’s history -- which is hard to believe, seeing as we already make the world’s highest performing natural, synthetic and blended layers for most other snow sports. Even so, nothing in our prior lineup quite captured snowboarding’s inherent style and specific needs. Hence, a collab was born.
“ODLO is a leader in merino wool and technical seamless knit. The genesis of our partnership was to use our manufacturing knowledge and ability and infuse it with Burton design details and attitude,” explains ODLO product director, Timo Pape. “We began discussing the possibility of a collab from these two very distinct strengths, and we think the outcome speaks for itself.”
What’s in a name?
Heli skiing and boarding buffs might already be familiar with the name Slokar as a bucket-list mode of transportation for getting up big mountains and to fresh powder. Our Slokar takes its name from Ivan Slokar – the economist and philosopher who patented the now famous helicopter design. The check pattern of the Slokar base layer is inspired by a helicopter rotor as seen from above; we’re hoping that its aesthetic and performance will inspire more everyday athletes to ride up so they can enjoy the ride back down.
Part of the Burton [ak] range
The Slokar Performance Wool 200 base layer is made from a combination of wool and synthetic fibres, featuring the same moisture-wicking, breathable, seamless performance for which ODLO is famous. But the Slokar also comes supercharged with Burton’s signature style – an aesthetic that has defined the Vermont-based company since its inception.
Co-created from start to finish, the Slokar joins Burton’s [ak] range – its highest performing pieces designed specifically for mountain adventures (in all conditions and environments). The Slokar also joins ODLO’s Performance Wool collection, which combines merino wool with synthetic fibres - because Unity is Strength - for everyday athletes who gravitate towards natural performance.
Coming in 2023
We’re proud of the Slokar and the collaboration that led to it, and we hope it brings more snowboarders a layer closer to exploring their local terrain in signature comfort and style.
At a glance:
- The Slokar comes in two colours: Black/Jake Blue and Hedge Green (men) and Hedge Green and Black/Grey Cloud (women)
- Slokar joins the Revelstoke and Kinship as part of our Performance Wool base layer collection – higher performing pieces made from natural (merino) and synthetic fibres for better breathability, moisture management and overall performance
- The Slokar will be sold online at Burton.com and odlo.com as well as select retail locations
This season, ODLO releases a series of base layers with Performance Wool powered by Nuyarn®. During a two-week reconnaissance trip to Svalbard, adventurer Jake Catterall wore our Revelstoke base layers in cold conditions and now shares his impressions.
Nuyarn® is the world’s first performance merino wool that behaves like wool does in nature. As we release a multi-season, year-round collection featuring Performance Wool merino fabrics for everyday athletes who gravitate towards natural, let’s take a closer look at what makes Nuyarn® merino unique.
