Searching for a snowboard-specific base layer? What about a piece designed as a collaboration between snowboard giant Burton and ODLO? One that inspires the confidence and comfort to go big in deep snow?
Coming at the end of this month, we’re thrilled to introduce the first snowboard-specific base layer in ODLO’s history -- which is hard to believe, seeing as we already make the world’s highest performing natural, synthetic and blended layers for most other snow sports. Even so, nothing in our prior lineup quite captured snowboarding’s inherent style and specific needs. Hence, a collab was born.
“We’re thrilled to have collaborated with Burton to launch the Slokar, the first snowboard-specific base layer in ODLO’s history.” said Kilian Breuer, ODLO product director. “By combining our distinct strengths - ODLO’s renowned seamless knitting expertise and Burton’s iconic design attitude - we’ve been able to create exceptional layers that deliver against snowboarding’s specific performance needs and inherent style. We can’t wait for a wider audience of winter enthusiasts to be able to experience ODLO’s craftmanship for the first time.”
Heli skiing and boarding buffs might already be familiar with the name Slokar as a bucket-list mode of transportation for getting up big mountains and to fresh powder. Our Slokar takes its name from Ivan Slokar – the economist and philosopher who patented the now famous helicopter design. The check pattern of the Slokar base layer is inspired by a helicopter rotor as seen from above; we’re hoping that its aesthetic and performance will inspire more everyday athletes to ride up so they can enjoy the ride back down.
The Slokar Performance Wool 200 base layer is made from a combination of wool and synthetic fibres, featuring the same moisture-wicking, breathable, seamless performance for which ODLO is famous. But the Slokar also comes supercharged with Burton’s signature style – an aesthetic that has defined the Vermont-based company since its inception.
Co-created from start to finish, the Slokar joins Burton’s [ak] range – its highest performing pieces designed specifically for mountain adventures (in all conditions and environments). The Slokar also joins ODLO’s Performance Wool collection, which combines merino wool with synthetic fibres for everyday athletes who gravitate towards natural performance.
We’re proud of the Slokar and the collaboration that led to it, and we hope it brings more snowboarders a layer closer to exploring their local terrain in signature comfort and style.
