Endurance runner and TEAM TSL athlete Maxime Grenot trail tests the new ODLO FLI hardshell

Ultra-endurance runner Maxime Grenot is hard on his performance apparel. At altitude, training more than 50 kilometres a week with lots of elevation and in all conditions, you’d expect nothing less.

We caught up with Grenot to gather his thoughts on the new FLI hardshell – a “high-end, ultralight packable men’s outer layer” that earns all its accolades, he says.

Out hiking 

I used it on a morning hike with a backpack to see about rubbing and fit. It was cool and foggy at the start, but then we went above the clouds and had sun. I was warm and dry despite the humidity. My base layer underneath wasn't soaked. Great breathability. It cut wind well too, especially with the hood on.

Trail tested

I used the jacket by the lake in full sun today with only a t-shirt on underneath for a run. No rubbing, no excessive moisture, the jacket stayed put and moved with me. Just nice to wear. 

Final impressions

I’ve only used it a handful of times, but I can tell it’s a versatile jacket. You can customize the fit with elastic bands at the hood or waist. There’s no rubbing anywhere and it is super lightweight, so you don't have to worry about carrying it. Also, it breathes well. I’ve never been wet with it on after a run. In the mountains that’s a big plus. It’s packable and practical. Personally, I also like the finish – it’s stylish.

I’m already reaching for it routinely and can’t wait for it to rain to test the 20,000g water proofing.
