Men's running apparel is more than a style question — it determines whether you'll enjoy your session or cut it short. Three factors matter most: the right level of warmth for the temperature, a fit that allows full freedom of movement, and fabrics that actively move sweat away from the skin. The goal is always the same: stay dry, regulate your body temperature, and stay focused on your run — whether it's 20°C or below freezing.

What should you wear when running in winter?

Winter running calls for a well-matched layering system. Start with a close-fitting, moisture-wicking base layer top that pulls sweat away and keeps your skin dry throughout the effort. Over that, when temperatures drop to around freezing, add a windproof running jacket with thermal insulation — ideally with reflective detailing for reduced visibility in winter light. On longer runs where you cool down quickly, a warm running tight with a brushed interior keeps your muscles warm and performing well. Gloves and a running top with a high collar or zip complete the setup effectively.

Which running apparel works for which weather?

Temperature sets the direction, but wind and rain matter just as much. Above 15°C, a lightweight, breathable running t-shirt in quick-drying polyester is enough — pair it with shorts or a short tight. Between 5 and 15°C, a light windproof jacket worn over a long-sleeve technical top protects your core. Below 5°C, a warm, brushed tight becomes essential, and an insulating jacket or vest shields your torso. In rain, the jacket's waterproofing is what counts: models with a water column of at least 10,000mm offer reliable protection without sacrificing breathability.

When should you wear a running jacket — and what features matter?

A running jacket earns its place when wind, cold, or rain go beyond what a top alone can handle. For in-between temperatures, a lightweight windproof jacket or vest with 4-way stretch keeps you moving freely. When it gets colder or wetter, look for a waterproof membrane with sealed seams and a waterproof zip for complete dryness. Reflective details on both jacket and tights aren't a bonus — they're a safety feature for runs at dusk or in poor light. The fit should be close but not restricting: a run-specific hood with a rain visor keeps your head dry without getting in your way.

What do you wear under running tights?

Under running tights or short tights, a seamless brief liner or boxer makes all the difference. In cold conditions, a warm base layer worn under the running pants holds body heat while simultaneously moving moisture outwards. What makes a good running tight?

A good running tight sits close enough to support the muscles and prevent chafing, while still allowing complete freedom of movement. 4-way stretch fabric is non-negotiable — it follows every stride without pulling or pressing. Practical features like an adjustable waistband, a thigh phone pocket, and reflective elements add real everyday value. In winter, a brushed interior retains warmth; in summer, ventilation panels or mesh inserts are key for cooling. If you prefer to run in shorts over your tight, a short liner underneath keeps comfort levels high throughout.
