Sealed against the rain, free to move: our women's rain jackets keep out wind and wet while letting moisture escape.
A good rain jacket takes you from the hiking trail to your daily commute. A few details help you find the right one. If you are looking for a waterproof women's rain jacket, water column, breathability and seams all count. The hood, pockets and ventilation matter too. Here you will find answers to the most important questions, so you can choose the jacket that suits your tours and your everyday life.
The 2.5-layer jacket has fully sealed seams and, as a lightweight women's rain jacket, is one of the most packable in the rain jacket range. It has a hood with a fixed rain visor, an adjustable hem and two hand pockets, reachable with a rucksack on. The 3-layer version has a fully taped construction, a ripstop outer fabric, underarm vents and four sealed pockets. This women's hardshell jacket is made for unpredictable mountain weather.
A women's outdoor jacket should be waterproof and breathable. Our 2.5-layer and 3-layer jackets both offer a 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 MVP breathability (20K/20K). They move sweat efficiently outwards and keep you dry through a downpour. For more intense effort such as cross-country skiing, you can even find jackets that go up to 50,000 MVP. Without this breathability, you get damp from the inside. Always check both figures.
A breathable waterproof jacket for women can only release what the layers beneath move away from your skin. On climbs, open the underarm vents. Under the jacket, wear a close-fitting base layer that draws moisture away from your body and a light, breathable mid layer that dries quickly. Odlo introduced the three-layer principle of base layer, mid layer and outer layer in 1986.
No, a windbreaker is not a rain jacket. It is light, packable and windproof to reliably bloc cool breezes. It is not designed to be waterproof. For rain, you need a women's waterproof jacket with sealed seams. Keep the windbreaker for dry, windy days.
Check the sewn-in care label first, and only wash your performance jacket when it needs it. Use a specialist detergent for waterproof fabrics or a liquid detergent, but no fabric softener or bleach. Wash it alone or with similar technical items at 30 °C on a gentle cycle, and rinse twice. A low-heat tumble dry reactivates the DWR coating. If water no longer beads off, apply a fresh DWR treatment.
