ODLO I-Thermic base layer wins innovation-focused 2021 ISPO Award

ODLO underscores its commitment to constant innovation with its first smart base layer with heating elements seamlessly knitted into the fabric. This is the second ISPO Award for the I-Thermic collection.

Pushing boundaries both in sport and in design. As ODLO continues craftsmanship with the latest in innovation and wearable technologies, its’ I-Thermic base layer recently earned a 2021 ISPO Award for product innovation. "It's in our nature to innovate and design products for sport enthusiasts that enhances their experience, especially under cold weather conditions", said Timo Pape, ODLO's Brand Director.

The independent ISPO Award jury selects every year the most innovative products of the sports industry from a multitude of high-quality entries. This seal of quality serves above all consumers as an orientation aid and decision-making basis in a multi-layered market.

I-Thermic technology was first released in 2019 with the ODLO I-Thermic mid-layer – a product that won several international awards, including the ISPO Gold Award. ODLO has adapted the smart heating technology to a base layer – a technology developed through collaboration with our manufacturer partner MAS®, and powered by clim8®. The I-Thermic base layer is a versatile garment for all kind of activities under cold weather conditions.

The lightweight base layer design was singled-out by the ISPO panel for its next-to-skin comfort. The base layer gives users full control of their own micro-climate thanks to a heating panel located in the abdomen and lateral chest areas. Thermal sensors are seamlessly integrated into the fabric and easily controlled with the smartphone's clim8® app. The base layer then responds depending desired temperature, activity and environmental conditions, and providing warmth only if you need it. Batteries last up to four hours with spares available for extra-long days out.

"We are artisans of fabrics and architects of yarn, and always want to explore the details of possible. Designing this base layer was the logical step after creating the I-Thermic mid layer a couple of years ago. We want to support adventurers to fully focus on what they love and help them achieve their goals and hope this innovation helps", added Timo Pape.
