At Odlo, we believe that protecting animals is part of protecting the people and places we love. That’s why we’re committed to the responsible sourcing of animal-derived materials and to continuously improving animal welfare standards in our supply chain.
We choose materials for their performance, and some animal-derived materials offer exceptional functional benefits. That’s why we continue to work with them — while ensuring they are sourced with care and to the highest possible standards.
Our Commitment
We aim to ensure that animals in our supply chains are treated with care, respect, and dignity. Our approach is based on the internationally recognized Five Domains Model for animal welfare, which goes beyond preventing cruelty to promoting positive conditions for animals.
Materials Policy and Standards
Material | Certifications Required | Additional Commitments |
Wool | RWS required for all 100% Merino base layers by 2027 | Mulesing-free declarations are required for all wool. No live lamb cutting. |
Down | GRS required for all recycled down by 2027 RDS required for all virgin down | Recycled down to be used wherever possible. Traceability is assured with GRS certification. |
Leather | LWG-certified only | Limited use (only where needed for performance reasons). |
Fur & Wildlife | Not used | Fur Free Brand. Ban includes all wildlife species (endangered or not). |
Only materials explicitly listed above may be used. All others are excluded. We are exploring animal-free and lower-impact material options, including blends that reduce the need for animal-derived materials.
How We Work
Our Sustainability, Product, and Supply Chain teams oversee the policy, with support from leadership. The policy is reviewed regularly and updated as needed, including input from expert organizations such as FOUR PAWS.
We share this policy with our suppliers and work with them to ensure alignment. Where possible, we require certifications and supporting documentation to confirm compliance.
We report on our progress annually, including the use of certified materials and efforts to reduce animal welfare risks. Where relevant, we provide this information to consumers, for example, when a product is certified, mulesing-free, or made with recycled down.
Industry Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Improving animal welfare takes collective effort. Odlo is committed to:
Being a Fur Free Retailer.
Supporting credible animal welfare standards such as RWS
Engaging in multi-stakeholder initiatives to strengthen industry practices
Encouraging the development of innovative, animal-free material alternatives like wool-blends with other fibers, enhancing the garment performance.
Looking Ahead
We will continue to improve transparency, increase certified material use, and reduce our reliance on animal-derived inputs — combining performance and innovation with respect for animals.
